It is expected that after 2030, the "green port" criterion in planning, investment in construction and business and exploitation of seaports in Vietnam will be mandatory.

Currently, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has issued a plan to implement the "Green Port Development Project" and from this year the "green port" model has been piloted at a number of Vietnamese seaports.

As a specialized port for LNG, PV GAS Vung Tau Terminal is inherently a link in the green energy ecosystem. Not stopping there, to move towards the green port model, applying technology in energy use management has helped save 20% of electricity consumption each month.

"Through the application of the energy monitoring program, each month the warehouse reduces nearly 1 billion VND in electricity bills, while also applying a paperless office model," Mr. Pham Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Warehouse Manager of PV GAS Vung Train, said.

An Port Joint Stock Company greened the spaces, invested in a rooftop solar power system, built a centralized cafeteria for more than 1,000 workers to reduce emissions from vehicles; Invest in a shore power system to supply electricity to ships coming in to handle cargo, limiting ships entering the port having to start their engines and wait for loading and unloading.

"The plan for 2024 - 2025 towards 2030 is Vietnam's green port goal, which will have a full shore power system for the wharves," said Mr. Vo Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long An Port Joint Stock Company , said.

100% of lifting equipment has been replaced from diesel to electric. This is the port that is piloting the Green Port Development Project in Vietnam. Also in this project, expected after 2030, green port criteria will be compulsorily applied with 6 main groups of criteria. To be recognized as a green port, a seaport must achieve at least 60 points on a 100-point scale of criteria.

At the end of 2022, the Vietnam Maritime Administration announced the criteria for green ports. In particular, there are specific reference factors such as using renewable energy sources, using electricity or clean fuel to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, optimizing and digitizing port operation chains.
