 Leaders of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, Vinacomin and EVN signed a memorandum of understanding on production and business activities in the area.

Quang Ninh is considered as the largest coal and electricity production center of the country. Therefore, Coal and Electricity are two important economic sectors, playing a pivotal role in the development of the province's economy, creating a driving force for growth in other economic sectors.

In 2021, these two pillars of the province have successfully completed the set plan. Specifically, the mining industry accounted for the largest proportion in the province's economy with 16.9%, the full-year growth rate increased by 8.8% compared to 2020 and contributed 1.58 percentage points to the growth rate. The electricity sector has the second largest economic structure in the province's economy with 16.6%, an increase of 4.84% compared to 2020, contributing 0.69 percentage points to the growth rate of GRDP.

In 2022, with a growth target of over 10%; in which, the industrial sector increased by 9.89%, with the expectation that the growth driver would be the processing and manufacturing industry reaching 31.1% thanks to the addition of 17 projects in the field of war processing and manufacturing industries. Therefore, the demand for energy for the stable operation of the processing and manufacturing industry in particular and the industry in general, as well as of the whole economy in the province, has increased greatly.

Facing complicated developments of the world situation, which are expected to cause difficulties for trade, commerce and payment activities of strategic fuel groups, including petroleum, gas and coal, and according to the The implementation of the national electricity system has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In principle, it can be determined that in 2022, there will be no shortage of electricity to serve production and daily life. However, especially for the Northern region, there may be a peak capacity shortage at some peak hours when the load demand may increase dramatically during extreme weather days and prolonged hot weather. . Besides, according to the report of EVN, because the supply of coal for power production of TKV and Dong Bac Corporation is not enough according to the signed coal sale and purchase contract, it is expected that there will be a shortage of coal for power production in the near future. in the future, correspondingly reducing the capacity of generating electricity with a capacity of about 3,000MW.

At the same time, they agreed on the proposed contents and recommended the Prime Minister to consider removing and supporting the coal and electricity industries. For EVN, focus on investing, speeding up the progress to ensure that the construction investment schedule is met or exceeded; mobilize the maximum power generation capacity of factories in the province; ensure a stable and safe supply of electricity for production and business activities of enterprises and daily-life needs of the people.
