The Governor General of Australia pays a State-level visit to Vietnam
Australian Governor-General David Hurley arrived in Hanoi on April 3, starting a state visit to Vietnam, at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.

The Australian Governor-General is the first foreign head of state to pay a state-level visit to Vietnam in 2023. Taking place in the year commemorating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia (1973-2023), the visit affirms the respect and desire of the two countries to deepen the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership.
Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai airport, Hanoi were: Chairman of the President's Office Le Khanh Hai; Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu; Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh; and representatives of a number of related agencies.
Participating in the delegation accompanying the Australian Governor-General on a state visit to Vietnam were: Governor-General's wife Linda Hurley; Deputy Assistant Governor General Jeffrey Barnes (Jepphray Banet); Head of Strategic Cooperation Timothy Grainger, Chief of Staff and assistants to the Governor General, and Australian Ambassador to Vietnam.
Born on August 26, 1953, in Wollongong, New South Wales state of Australia, Mr. David Hurley graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the Royal Defense Academy (Australia) in 1975 and a Master's degree from the War Academy (USA) in 1997. .
Mr. David Hurley joined the Royal Australian Army in January 1972 and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1990.
After that, he was appointed to the following positions: Colonel, Commander of Division 1 (June 1994); Military Secretary to the Chief of Staff of the Royal Army (December 1997); Brigadier General, Commander of the 1st Brigade in Darwin, Northern Australia (January 1999); Major General, Commander of the Capacity Development Division (July 2001); Commander, Head of Land Fund Development Committee (December 2002); Lieutenant General, Commander of the Capacity Development Department (December 2003); Commander of joint military operations (September 2007); Deputy Chief of Staff (July 2008) and General, Chief of the Royal Australian Army General Staff (July 2011).
In October 2014, he became the 38th Governor of New South Wales, Australia. On July 1, 2019, Mr. David Hurley was sworn in as the 27th Governor-General of Australia.
