The visit of the Australian Governor General creates momentum for relations with Vietnam

Experts believe that the visit will create a new foundation and momentum for the two countries to soon realize their determination to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023.

Accepting the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong, Australian Governor General David Hurley will pay a state visit to Vietnam from April 3-6.

Talking to Vietnam News Agency reporters in Sydney on this occasion, Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai - researcher at the Center for Policy Futures, University of Queensland (Australia), affirmed that the visit has many purposes. and significance, creating new momentum for the relationship between the two countries.

According to Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, in 2023, Vietnam and Australia celebrate two major milestones in bilateral relations, which are 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (February 26, 1973 - February 26, 2023). and 5 years of establishing a strategic partnership (March 15, 2018-March 15, 2023).

In that context, the visit of Australian Governor General David Hurley to Vietnam is demonstrated by specific activities, showing appreciation for a major and very meaningful milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Second, the visit affirms the continued strengthening of high-level meetings and contacts, thereby strengthening political trust between the two countries, and is a point of consensus between the two countries' senior leaders. Strengthening political trust is one of the contents and pillars of the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership.

According to the official announcement of both sides, on this occasion, in addition to holding talks with President Vo Van Thuong, Australian Governor-General David Hurley will also have meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Pham Minh.
