VAN YEN ORANGE
Planted in the offshore island of Van Yen in Van Don district, Van Yen Orange has currenly listed among delicacies that tourists should not miss any chance to try.
The plants of Van Yen orange are grown at Van Yen commune, about 10 kilometers from the centre of the district. This area comprises a large area of mountains, forests, ravines with fresh and cool atmosphere and high humidity which enable these plants to grow rapidly.
It is reported that there are over 100 households possessing orange gardens with the toal area of about 183 hectares at Van Yen commune.
The cultivation of Van Yen orange fully follows VietGAP standards (Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practice). All of the trees are irrigated with the pure source of water from forest streams, grown with biofertilizers, and do not suffer from any impacts of pepticides as well. That’s why these fruits are really clean and have a speacial taste.
The brand of Van Yen orange has been registered as one of OCOP products since 2016. The OCOP (One Commune, Once Product) programme has been implemented since 2013 across the province to boost economic development in rural areas, especially the development of agricultural, non-agricultural and service-based products in each locality in the value chain.
The average productivity of this kind of organge is only roughly 200 tons/year and its prices range from VND 32 thousand to VND 35 thousand per kilogram. The harvest season marks only the ending period of each year, hence most of these products are often consumed locally. Quang Ninh province is goint to expand the planting area of this special fruit to meet the increasing demand in the forthcoming time.
